My maternal grandparents are my heroes. What they lacked in formal education, they made up for in hard work and genuine curiosity about the world. They encouraged me to read anything I could get my hands on and ask every question I could think of, no matter how silly. I also picked up some good curse words in Portuguese from them, which hasn’t been super-applicable in my everyday life, but it’s nice to have that in my back pocket should I need it.
